With the Coronado, California Sheriff threatening famed attorney Anne Bremner, who has tirelessly fought for the case of Rebecca Zahau’s suspicious death to be reopened and reinvestigated. The sheriff seems to have taken a very sensitive and personal slight against him, which the Zahau family and Bremner do not want. They simply want the case to be reevaluated so that they can finally get to the bottom of the case. “Becky is dead. There are more questions than answers, and we simply want the answers made clear,” said an emotionally devastated relative of the late Rebecca Zahau exclusively to Highlight Hollywood.
Anne Bremner has been mischaracterized by some in the media and some people who posts on blogs and online sites. The attacks against this attorney though unwarranted will not deter her from fighting for justice for the Zahau family. “Tommy, we just want the case to be fairly looked at. It’s not a big request.” Being a professional jurist and an officer of the court, Anne Bremner has declined to go into specifics about the case, stating she wants this case to be reexamined and that it’s not any personal slights against the law enforcement community. Rebecca Zahau’s brother in law tells Highlight Hollywood the exact same thing. In fact, he has been a member of the law enforcement community and holds it in high regard, but simply, “We do not believe Becky’s death was a suicide. We believe that can be proved if it’s investigated clearly and fairly this time.
However, Sheriff Gore seems agitated and it’s not hard to understand. He has a force that is under scrutiny now, but the fact that threats of the files being opened to the public not only would further destroy the integrity of any possible death reinvestigation, but would be an over-reaction to an attorney’s simple request for the case files to be given to her for her inspection and further investigation. Ever since Zahau’s brother-in-law Doug and his beautiful grieving wife Mary appeared on the “Dr. Phil Show,” graciously thanking everyone for their hard work in the case, this family has been under attack, and the reasons why seem to be convoluted and extremely unfair, not to mention very improper and detrimental to everyone involved. A family friend who wanted to remain anonymous tells Highlight Hollywood, “It seems Sheriff Gore seems to take everything personally. Doesn’t he realize a family has lost a loved one? That they have been devastated by Becky’s shocking death, which they do not believe is a suicide, and more importantly, this is the first holiday season they will have to deal with without Becky. The gravity of it all is absolutely devastating and yet they are being attacked. Isn’t there something wrong with this picture?
In a letter to Anne Bremner, San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore states that he would release (Rebecca) Zahau’s investigative files to the public if the family did not keep the investigation quiet. Rebecca was found hanging, bound and nude from the balcony of her boyfriend’s San Diego County mansion in July. Since that time, the family’s questions about the case have been seen by authorities wrongly as attacks into their investigation or the character of individuals with the Coronado and San Diego police departments. “That is not the case,” said brother-in-law Doug. “We want to see the investigation reopened, that’s all. We do not believe our Becky killed herself, that’s all we are saying.”
This is not a wealthy family seeking “extra justice,” this is a family devastated by their loss. When asked what Thanksgiving was like, and what the upcoming Christmas holiday season will be like for the family. Fighting back the tears, one of Becky’s sisters tells Highlight Hollywood. “We have much to be thankful for and we are blessed to be a cohesive family unit. But I’d be lying if I told you we enjoyed Thanksgiving. It was heartbreaking to think that Becky will no longer be a part of our family unit here on earth. We know she’s in Heaven, and that she is not in any pain. But our pain is too great to even bear. Knowing that she was not there at the dinner table on Thanksgiving almost destroyed my parents. They have been through so much.” That point seems to be forgotten by authorities. The violent death of Rebecca Zahau ends the life of a beautiful woman, that the media and some law enforcement authorities seem to forget. “Becky will never have children, never enjoy her nieces and nephews, never be able to console or comfort her aging parents. Never be here to speak up for herself, that’s why we must do so,” concluded Zahau’s brother-in-law Doug.
Sheriff Gore’s letter contends, that if portions of the investigation are released in a way that falsely represents the work performed by the Sheriff’s Department, they will correct the false portrayal by opening the entire investigation for public scrutiny. However, Anne Bremner mission has always been to get this case reopened and answers for the family. Gore has placed himself in a position that seems almost adversarial to the family, instead of being able to empathize with this family. Perhaps that is because the media has mischaracterized who Rebecca Zahau is? Highlight Hollywood plans in the future to give the truth about who the woman, known as Becky to her family, truly was. This case like the Natalie Wood case seems to have placed the victim in the position of being maligned by others, and although this family does not have financial means to hire PR firms and handlers. Perhaps the latest information will set as a reminder, that justice sometimes comes from people outside of the official investigations in these cases.

Ann Rule is the perfect writer to tackle this mysterious case… can’t wait to read it.
Thank you Mr. Garrett for this heart-wrenching article. I pray that Ms. Rule, through her research, can find the answers to who is responsible for this beautiful woman’s horrendous death and why the San Diego Sheriff’s Office went to such lengths to divert the investigation, thus allowing the murderers to remain unaccountable.
Thank you, Denise! Please keep reading us, we have even more coming up. I did an interview with Mary, Rebecca’s sister that will run overnight!
