CORONADO, Calif.—On Friday, September 2, 2011, the San Diego Sheriffs Department closed the case of Rebecca Zahau, determining that Rebecca, according to evidence, had taken her own life. They went ahead with this decision despite the fact that the Zahau family and their distinguished lawyer, the famed jurist Anne Bremner, presented them with reasonable objections that warranted further investigation. However, it was obvious that the sheriffs department had worked too hard to paint this picture of suicide and they were not open or interested in reevaluating the case. Now the family is left to fight for justice for Rebecca themselves.

Dr. Phil McGraw has also joined the fight for justice. In a world exclusive, Dr. Phil had authorities exhume the body of Rebecca in order to run forensic testing on her body, and the conclusion was, Rebecca most likely did not commit suicide and the coroner, Cyril H. Wecht, M.D., J.D, who had done tens of thousands of autopsies announced on national television that he believes the case should be reopened by authorities in San Diego County and re-reviewed.

What is most shocking about Rebecca’s case, is that people have forgotten that she had loved ones. Her parents are still in grief, her father survived the Burmese internment camps, came to America and did all he could to raise such beautiful and amazing children. I’ve spoken with Rebecca’s sister, Snowen, who lives in Germany with her husband, and they are still crestfallen over the way Becky’s case has been handled. Her sister Mary and her husband Doug, have never said anything to me that could be construed as negative about the police, only desiring a full reopening of the case, and that’s all anyone with this beautiful family has requested.

I spoke with their famed attorney, Anne Bremner, who has been a tireless advocate for the Zahau family, and who plans on continuing her fight for them, until justice is served. Anne has shown great respect for the hard work that law enforcement does to solve cases. I’ve spoken with police in various jurisdictions that she has communicated with and asked that they review or re-review evidence and consider reopening cases, in order to achieve what we all request and pray for in America; justice. Those law enforcement officials say that she is extremely professional, proficient at her duties, but showed them extreme respect, and that it’s her job as part of our United States Constitution to fight for her clients.

People have made this case personal. Many have attacked Anne Bremner personally, but should ask themselves, why? Why are they also attacking the Zahau family, that has suffered enough already? And most importantly, why would anyone believe that a woman who never had any history of suicide attempts or mental illness would kill herself because of devastating consequences out of her control? Perhaps it’s easiest to blame the victim, to say that a person who is dead is gone and they don’t deserve or need justice. In fact, that is even a greater reason for it, since that person can no longer fight for themselves. What I see however, is a family that is being guided by their Becky’s spirit, speaking loudly for the first time, from the grave, to never give up until the truth is revealed. That’s a powerful battle, one that will ultimately become victorious. Becky had a beautiful smile, gorgeous dimples a perfect complexion. But what she embodied mostly, is a young woman, who loved life, who could deal with adversities in life, who had a strong faith and respect for herself and those she loved. Her loved ones, along with their attorney Anne Bremner told me on Thanksgiving, that they will continue to fight for justice for Becky, and for the truth to be revealed, wherever it takes them.

Rebecca’s family knows that we are going into winter, the holiday season this year is very bleak for the family. But they know that on the other side of darkness is light, on the other side of sadness is truth and on the other side of injustice, there is justice. And they will seek and fight for their beloved sister, daughter and loved one. Perhaps it’s just so unspeakable to think that anyone could hurt her. Her ex-husband said recently, “I know Becky would never commit suicide, because there is no way on earth she could ever harm  herself or her family. Anyone who could ever harm Rebecca has to be a monster, and I believe justice will one day be served, and Rebecca’s name and memory cleared of these accusations. ” Fortunately,Becky’s loved ones and her family’s incredibly talented attorney will not give up this fight to clear her name. Her case will continue to be evaluated by the professionals, who will seek the truth.

Please think about the attacks many are waging against this family. They may not hold riches and fortune in financial means. But they hold a greater power, more powerful and unique than riches. It’s love, loyalty and family. And ultimately they want their one family member, that has gone on to heaven to know that she can rest in peace. Until that day, these beautiful and strong-willed people will continue their fight until justice for Becky comes home.
